Awana - Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________WHAT IS AWANA?
AWANA is a nonprofit global ministry committed to the belief, that the greatest impact for Christ starts with children who love, know, and serve Him. Through fun scripture enriched learning Awana is able to reach children for Jesus Christ. It equips ministry leaders and parents to disciple children with the Gospel, God’s Truth. To change the world through evangelism and long term discipleship.
Our Awana leaders at Ridgely Christian Church, strive to nurture and build a strong spiritual foundation between God and each child. We have made a commitment to reach unsaved youth and families with the gospel of Christ through Bible memorization.
We begin their journey to love God at the age of 2. As they progress through the program in their preteen years, children have a desire in their hearts to know Him. By the time they graduate high school they have learned how to serve Him. Through God and what the Awana program can provide, our children are now equipped to begin the next chapter in their life.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING CLUB MEETINGS?
HOW DOES AWANA PARTICIPATE IN MISSIONS?
Throughout the year the AWANA program at RCC along with church members help provide for those in need. Our leaders teach the children the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37); "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and will all your mind; and Love your neighbor as yourself."
Each year our club members participate in the Turkey Super, RCC Rival, Dearborn Community Food Network, their favorite Operation Christmas Child, and our newest mission for the youth in Panama.
Please visit our Missions pages find out more detail and how you can get involved.
We also give back to our church members by singing, making cards, cookies, and planting flowers. There no better feeling than watching our youth help lift someones spirit in their time of need. God is Grand!

WHAT HAPPENS DURING CLUB MEETINGS?
- Opening Ceremony: Our leaders and youth praise God through signing songs and reciting the Christian, American, and Awana Club pledges. What a great way to teach children to respect God, Country, and their Awana club. Our youth also share Bible verses they have memorized throughout the week. It's so wonderful to hear each child communicate what God has placed in their heart, His Word. Children are encouraged to join in prayer time, which allows them to not only develop this skill, but to speak their concerns for their family, friends, or issues around the world.
- Classroom & Handbook Time : At RCC, we have classes for children age 2 - senior in high school. For more details see the Classes page under Ministries/Awana. Our leader to child ratio is about 1 to 2 and this offers us the opportunity to provide quality teaching and relationship building. Each week, our children are encouraged to take home their individual handbook and work along side with their parent/guardian on that's weeks Bibles verses. In doing this, it helps prepare them to learn God's Word and understand the lesson. Parents/Guardians, you are a vital part of your child's growth and development and our leaders would like to inspire you to take an active role in our program.
- Lesson: Lesson time for our young club members 2 years - 2nd grade, our RCC leaders provide biblical lessons that coincide with the each child's handbook. The children are able to settle down and hear an excellent and practical lesson from God’s Word. Our older club members 3rd -12th grade have high level of thinking, engaging, deeper meaning, and inquisitive lessons about Creation, Faith, the Bible, Eternal Life, Sin, Prayer, Baptism, Salvation, the topics are endless. Please visit the Classes page under Ministries/Awana to see what key bible verses are emphasizes.
- Council Time: Our pastor Jimmy Porter, will come and speak to the group and share a special message and answer many questions that the children, parents, or leaders have. This is a wonderful time for the children to get to know their pastor and for him to share is love of God.
- Snack Time: Another favorite time for the children is when we all get together for snacks and learn why we need to Give Thanks and praise to God from who all blessings flow. (1 Timothy 4:4-5) "For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the Word of God and prayer."
- Craft & Game Time: At RCC, we attempt to choose crafts and games that praise God and bring a deeper meaning to the Bible verses and lessons that are presented by our leaders. This has always been one of their favorite times of the evening. When we all get back together to either create something unique that can be shared with our families or team up and be challenged at game time.
- Awana Giving Store: Throughout the year the youth have many ways they can earn Shares (incentives) aka Awana Bucks to spend at the store. Ways to earn shares: attending weekly church service, Sunday school, attending church sponsored events at Ridgely or abroad. Our leaders instill in the youth that it is truly better to give that receive. (Acts 20:35) "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than receive.'" This is an very exciting night for the children as we hold this event prior to Christmas. The youth love to go shopping for one another, family, friends, leaders, Sunday school teachers, and Pastor.
